we are still children
there is a certain beauty in it
but there is also a certain danger to it
we're told to leave our mother's arms
yet we still crave to be held until we've stopped crying
we are given too much
our heads are too full
you cry out
please don't leave me
i will not leave you
i will not silence you
or abuse you
you matter to me
we are still children
we shouldn't have this weight on our chests
pushing us down to the ground
where we hide
from ourselves and each other
you say to me the world is dangerous now
i tell you
the world has always been dangerous
only now is it becoming apparent
our hands are ripped from our eyes
trying to shield from the shadowy figures so
clear to us now
forced to watch as everything we cared for is destroyed
we are supposed to be children
what do we do when all we see is violence
what do we do when our hearts can't take any more
when the light starts dimming
and the sounds start fading
and the sky starts falling
you tell me you're starting to lose interest in daily life
and i tell you the same
together we look up in attempt to feel complete again
to the moon and stars
to everyone we've seen leave
here we are children
we look up at the sky and see all of its wonders
it's wholeness
we don't understand it
but we know it can't hurt us
and that's good enough for now
so we hope it doesn't dim
we pray it never fades
we wish it won't ever fall
because here is where we can be children
you whisper to me
i like it here
i whisper back
it's because we're home
