Algebra-Based Physics II
Naomi Tercero

Normal force – the repulsion of atoms.
It is responsible for things not phasing into other things, or through things.
It’s the reason why we’ll never really touch anything.

But we can come close.

This must be why we try so hard…

When lips crash against lips.
When fingers claw
& pull
& ache for more.

Nails digging into plump peach skin
I pierce it, collect it
It’s not meant to harm,
posed as a question,
Will you come closer to me?

Is this why you hold me down against sheets?
Mingled among threads,
why I hold on to your weight?
Melting into you, combined into one mess.

Yet yearning for more.

Against hardwood or cushion
always
fighting against atoms to be together
finally
at rest.

Touch starved by our own creation.

I told you once that I felt a gold thread,
thrumming with every beat of your heart.
Attached to mine,
every vein
& artery
entwined & tangled.

Our limbs in the sunlight of morning.
I beat when you beat. I breathe when you breathe.
Come closer to me. Phase into me. Defy this law with me.
